FAQs

Why FirstString?

We believe that every high school athlete has a story to tell about the experience of being on the team and playing the game. While local news reporters do a good job of covering local teams and players, it's impossible for every athlete and team to get coverage. FirstString gives athletes the opportunity to take control of the story and write it from their point of view while sharing it with teammates, opponents and all the rest of us.

What is FirstString?

FirstString allows high school athletes to share their athletic experiences and game moments with their teammates, opponents, friends, family, media and recruiters. We believe that all high school athletes have a unique story to be told and we've created FirstString as a platform for them to share their journey. We'll continue to build features that make it easy for athletes to capture those raw and in the moment feelings before and after playing games.

Who can sign up on FirstString?

Any high school athlete playing a high school sport can join FirstString. Coaches, fans, recruiters and the media get to follow along just like they do at a real game (from the sidelines).

How does FirstString work?

After an athlete joins FirstString, they may be required to identify their opponents. Once we know which teams they're playing, an athlete can post about a team up to three days before playing them and up to 24 hours after the game ends. We call this an athlete's pre and post game summary. For post games summaries, an athlete can also confirm the final game score and share their game moments, or what they accomplished in a game.

What are Athlete profiles?

They're strictly for high school schools. An athletes profile contains information on them like their name, photo, high school, sports they play and their positions as well as all of their game posts, which are organized around their opponents.

What are Team profiles?

Team profiles are comprised of all the athletes on the team. While no one athlete controls their team's profile, a team profile aggregates information from the team's players and their opponents. Some of the information on a team profile includes the teams name, their high school and a list of all the players and their opponents. You can visit a team profile to read what all the athletes are saying before and after their games.

I'm an Athlete, who can see my game posts?

Everyone. Think about what you post because all of your game summaries are viewable by your teammates, opponents and any visitor to you profile (even if they are not logged in). Don't say anything you wouldn't want to see printed in the paper or quoted in the news.

An athlete is posting threatening posts. What can I do?

Posting threatening comments, verbally attacking another athlete on FirstString, and using bad language is absolutely not tolerated on FirstString. If you feel that an athlete's post violates our Terms of Use, please report it immediately to our team. Go to the athlete's profile, rollover the offending content with your mouse cursor and click on the “Report” link. Follow the instructions.

How do I report an Athletes profile?

We ask that you please read our Terms of Service before reporting an athlete's profile but we understand that there will be times that an athlete's profile is fake or contains inappropriate content. You can report an athlete's profile by going to the athlete's profile and clicking on the “Report” link found at the bottom left of their page. Follow the instructions to send us the report.

My high school is missing from the list of sign up schools

If you're high school is not listed when you're signing up, that just means we haven't added it yet. Click here to submit your high school [LINK]. We'll add it and let you know as soon we confirm your high school.

I'm an athlete and my sport isn't listed when I sign up

We're working hard to add every high school sport to FirstString. High school sports are seasonal, so only winter sports are eligible to use FirstString at this time. Spring sports will be added in January and we'll make sure all fall sports are added soon after.

Does FirstString have a mobile app?

Not yet. We're working on it and hope to have it available soon.

Does FirstString have any cool swag?

Of course we do! It probably wouldn't hurt if you contacted us to tell us what we're doing well (or what we're not) or become a fan of our Facebook or Twitter page and than ask us to mail you some cool swag. We'll see what we can do ;)
